Week of September 23, 2018

What’s Happening

Crews will continue shifting travel lanes and setting up concrete barrier to create safe work zones along Interstate 66.  Other upcoming planned construction activities include:

  • Grading, excavating, and clearing trees and brush at the Route 28 interchange and other places where work zones are set up
  • Paving in the newly widened median between Route 123 and Blake Lane to support upcoming traffic shifts
  • Continued grading and drainage work at the future University Boulevard Park and Ride Lot
  • Begin grading and excavating for the new E.C. Lawrence Park Access Road
  • Continued temporary relocation of underground and overhead utilities along I-66

 

Upcoming Lane Closures and Traffic Changes

ROUTE 29 / GAINESVILLE

No significant traffic impacts scheduled.

 

ROUTE 234 (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS

I-66 East from Groveton Road to Bull Run Drive

Sunday, September 23: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Monday, September 24 – Tuesday, September 25: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three left lanes closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction. Drivers should expect occasional 15-minute stoppages and slowdowns along eastbound I-66.

Ramp from Northbound Sudley Road (Route 234 Business) to I-66 East

Wednesday, September 26: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Narrowing and single lane closures on the ramp with occasional 15-minute stoppages and slowdowns.

 

ROUTE 28 (SULLY ROAD) / CENTREVILLE

I-66 West from Route 29 Centreville to Bull Run

Sunday, September 23: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three left lanes closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction. Drivers should expect occasional 15-minute stoppages and slowdowns along eastbound I-66.

I-66 West from Stringfellow Road to Route 29 Centreville

Monday, September 24 – Wednesday, September 26: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three left lanes closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction. Drivers should expect occasional 15-minute stoppages and slowdowns along westbound I-66.

 

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 Centreville

Monday, September 24: Midnight to 4 a.m.

Full ramp closure to allow for construction activities.  Traffic will be detoured to the Route 28 South exit from I-66 West, then take the Route 29 South exit from Route 28 South.

Ramp from Southbound Route 29 Centreville to I-66 West

Tuesday, September 25: Midnight to 4 a.m.

Full ramp closure to allow for construction activities. Traffic will be detoured to make a U-turn at the median break at O’Day Drive to Route 29 North to exit to I-66 West.

I-66 East from Route 29 Centreville to Stringfellow Rd

Thursday, September 27: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three left lanes closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction. Drivers should expect occasional 15-minute stoppages and slowdowns along eastbound I-66.

 

ROUTE 286 (FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY)

I-66 West from US Route 50 to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)

Thursday, September 29: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Three left lanes closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction. Drivers should expect occasional 15-minute stoppages and slowdowns along westbound I-66.

 

ROUTE 50 / FAIRFAX

I-66 West from US Route 50 to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway)

Thursday, September 29: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Three left lanes closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction. Drivers should expect occasional 15-minute stoppages and slowdowns along westbound I-66.

 

ROUTE 123 (CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD) / OAKTON – CITY OF FAIRFAX

I-66 East between Blake Lane and Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) and I-66 West between US Route 50 and Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road)

Friday, September 28: 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.

Temporary closure of the three left lanes of eastbound I-66 and the three left lanes of westbound I-66 between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.  Periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. on eastbound and westbound I-66 and on the Route 123 CD Road to remove overhead utility lines.

ROUTE 243 (NUTLEY STREET) / VIENNA

No significant traffic impacts scheduled.

I-66 West between Virginia Lane to Gallows Road

Thursday, September 27: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

Friday, September 28:  9 p.m. to 9 a.m.

Three left lanes closed to implement long-term lane shifts for construction. Drivers should expect occasional 15-minute stoppages and slowdowns along westbound I-66.  Additionally there will be narrowing and single lane closures on the ramps from northbound and southbound I-495 general purpose lanes to westbound I-66 with occasional 15-minute stoppages and slowdowns.
