Upcoming Lane Closures and Traffic Changes

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / GAINESVILLE

University Boulevard North and South from I-66 to Route 29 (Lee Highway) Gainesville

Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One lane will be closed daily for roadway construction.

 

Route 29 North and South from University Boulevard to I-66

Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One lane will be closed daily for roadway construction.

 

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road

Daily through Friday, May 20: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

 

I-66 East from Route 29 Gainesville to Manassas Safety Rest Area

Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The left lane will be closed daily for paving.

 

I-66 East from Groveton Road to Bull Run Drive

Sunday, May 8, through Tuesday, May 10: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for paving.

 

I-66 East from Balls Ford Access Road to Groveton Road

Sunday, May 8, and Monday, May 9: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed both nights for overhead sign installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

ROUTE 234 BUSINESS (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road

Daily through Friday, May 20: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

 

I-66 East from Route 29 Gainesville to Manassas Safety Rest Area

Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The left lane will be closed daily for paving.

 

I-66 East from Groveton Road to Bull Run Bridge

Sunday, May 8, through Tuesday, May 10: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for paving.

 

I-66 East from Route 234 Business to Manassas Safety Rest Area

Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

I-66 East from Bull Run Bridge to Cub Run Bridge

Wednesday, May 11, through Friday, May 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for paving.

 

I-66 East from Balls Ford Access Road to Groveton Road

Sunday, May 8, and Monday, May 9: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed both nights for overhead sign installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / CENTREVILLE

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road

Daily through Friday, May 20: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

 

I-66 East from Bull Run Bridge to Cub Run Bridge

Wednesday, May 11, through Friday, May 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for paving.

 

I-66 East at Cub Run Bridge

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, May 6, continuously through 5 a.m. Monday, May 9 (the weekend of May 13-15 will be used as back up should inclement weather occur)

The left lane will be closed for bridge work. Two lanes will be closed between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights.

 

ROUTE 28 (SULLY ROAD) / CENTREVILLE

I-66 East at Route 28

Monday, May 9, through Thursday, May 12: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.  

Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic short stoppages between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. nightly.

 

I-66 West at Route 28

Monday, May 9, through Thursday, May 12: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed each night for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic short stoppages between 10:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. nightly.

 

Route 28 North from Route 29 (Lee Highway) to I-66

Sunday, May 8: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for paving and a traffic shift.

 

Ramp from Route 29 South to Route 28 North

Sunday, May 8: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. 

The ramp will be closed each night for paving and a traffic shift. Drivers heading to Route 28 North and/or I-66 East will be detoured farther south, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East; for those heading to Route 28 North, then take the exit to Route 28 North.

Sunday, May 8, and Monday, May 9: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights it conflicts with other closures

 

Ramp from Route 28 North to I-66 East

Thursday, May 12: 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for a traffic shift.  Traffic will be directed to continue north to Westfields Boulevard West, stay to the right to Route 28 South, then follow signs to I-66 East.

 

I-66 East from east of Route 28 to Stringfellow Road

Wednesday, May 11, and Thursday, May 12: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge beam installation approaching Stringfellow Road.  Traffic will be directed into a single lane and diverted behind barrier onto new roadway around the work zone.

 

Route 28 North at I-66

The right lane will remain closed to provide an extended merge lane for the ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North.

 

ROUTE 286 (FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY) / FAIR LAKES

I-66 East from east of Route 28 to Stringfellow Road

Wednesday, May 11, and Thursday, May 12: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge beam installation approaching Stringfellow Road.  Traffic will be directed into a single lane and diverted behind barrier onto new roadway around the work zone.

Ramps from Stringfellow Road to I-66 East/from I-66 West to Stringfellow Road
Beginning at 10:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, continuously through 4:30 a.m. Monday, May 16
The ramps will be closed for demolition of the old concrete barrier along the ramps.

 

Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North at I-66

Thursday, May 12, and Friday, May 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work and a traffic shift. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 286 North

Thursday night, May 12, and Friday night, May 13: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work and a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North.

 

Ramp from Route 286 North to I-66 West

Thursday night, May 12, and Friday night, May 13: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed both nights for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to exit to I-66 East, travel to Route 50 West, then stay to the right to I-66 West.

 

I-66 East from Stringfellow Road to Monument Drive

Monday, May 9, and Tuesday, May 10:  9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for barrier removal and milling.

 

ROUTE 50 / FAIRFAX

Ramps from I-66 West to Monument Drive/from Monument Drive to I-66 East

Monday, May 9, through Saturday, May 14: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramps will be closed nightly for bridge demolition.

 

Monument Drive South over I-66

Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Monument Drive South will be reduced to a single lane nightly for bridge demolition.

 

Random Hill Road under Monument Drive

Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Random Hills Road will be reduced to a single travel lane for overhead bridge demolition. Flaggers will alternate a single lane of travel in each direction.

 

Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 West

Monday night, May 9, through Friday night, May 13: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be close each night for barrier and ditch work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

Monday night, May 9, and Tuesday night, May 10: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed each night for paving.  Traffic will be detoured to Route 50 West, exit to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, then stay to the right to Route 50 East.

 

Route 50 East from Marriott Hotel to I-66 East Ramp

Tuesday, May 10, Wednesday, May 11, and Friday, May 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for a traffic shift. On Friday night drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

Ramp from Route 50 West to Fair Oaks Mall

Wednesday night, May 11, and Thursday night, May 12: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed both nights for guardrail installation and a traffic shift. Drivers will be detoured farther west to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then turn right at one of the two entrances to the Fair Oaks Mall property.

 

I-66 West from Jermantown Road to Route 50

Thursday, May 12, and Friday, May 13: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

Right Turn Lane from Monument Drive North to I-66 East

Ongoing, through August 1

The right turn lane from Monument Drive North to I-66 East will be closed for bridge work. Traffic will be directed farther north to Fair Lakes Parkway, make a U-turn at the traffic signal to head south on Monument Drive. Drivers will then turn left at the traffic signal to the ramp to I-66 East.

 

Random Hills Road West from Fairfax Hills Way to Monument Drive

The left lane will be closed for retaining wall and bridge construction.

 

Random Hills Road East at Monument Drive

The right lane will be closed for bridge construction.

 

Route 50 East from Fair Oaks Mall to I-66

ROUTE 123 (CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD) / OAKTON – CITY OF FAIRFAX

I-66 East from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) to Vaden Drive

Monday, May 9: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

Route 123 North at I-66

Friday, May 13: 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

One lane will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

Route 123 South from Rose Forest Drive to I-66

Friday, May 13: 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

One lane will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

ROUTE 243 (NUTLEY STREET) / VIENNA

I-66 East from Blake Lane to Vaden Drive

Monday, May 9, through Friday, May 13: 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The left lane will be closed daily for drainage and barrier work.

 

I-66 East from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) to Vaden Drive

Monday, May 9: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

I-66 East from Vaden Drive to Nutley Street

Sunday, May 8, through Friday, May 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for bridge rehabilitation work at Nutley Street.

 

Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street South

Sunday, May 8, through Friday, May 13: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed nightly for drainage construction. Traffic will be directed to exit to Nutley Street North, stay to the right and turn right at the traffic signal on to Nutley Street South. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights that the ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North is closed.

 

I-66 West from Nutley Street to Vaden Drive

Monday, May 9, and Tuesday, May 10: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed both nights for overhead gantry installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North

Wednesday, May 11, through Friday, May 13: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Saturday, May 14: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed nightly for drainage construction.  Traffic will be direct to exit to Nutley Street South, stay to the left and make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Saintsbury Drive on to Nutley Street North. Note: This closure will not be implemented on nights that the ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street South is closed.

 

I-66 West at Vaden Drive

Friday, May 13: 9 a.m. to noon

The left lane will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

Vaden Drive North over I-66

Friday, May 13: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The right lane will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

Ramp from Virginia Center Boulevard to I-66 West

Beginning around 3 p.m. Friday, May 12, through Tuesday, July 5

The ramp will be closed.  Traffic will be directed to continue east on Virginia Center Boulevard to Nutley Street. At the traffic signal, turn right to Nutley Street South, then turn left at the traffic signal to access the ramp to I-66 West.

 

Nutley Street North and South at I-66

Thursday, May 12, through Saturday, May 14: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Nutley Street will be reduced to a single travel lane in each direction over I-66 to implement a traffic shift.

 

Ramp from I-66 West to Nutley Street South

Friday night, May 13, and Saturday night, May 14: Midnight to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed.  Traffic will be directed farther west to the exit to Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Station, stay to the right onto Country Creek Road, continue onto Virginia Center Boulevard, then at the Nutley Street traffic signal turn right to head south.

 

I-495 (CAPITAL BELTWAY) / DUNN LORING

I-66 West from I-495 to Gallows Road

Sunday, May 8, through Tuesday, May 10: 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for bridge pier construction.

 

Ramp from the 495 Express Lanes North to I-66 West

Sunday, May 8, through Tuesday, May 10: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed nightly. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to an alternate route.

 

Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North

Monday, May 9, through Wednesday, May 11, and Saturday, May 14: 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

The ramp will be closed nightly for bridge work and a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, then stay to the right following signs to I-495 North.

 

495 Express Lanes North at I-66

Monday, May 9, and Friday, May 13: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The northbound 495 Express Lanes will be closed approaching I-66 for a traffic shift. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to an alternate route.

Tuesday, May 10, through Friday, May 13: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

I-66 West from Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) to I-495

Monday, May 9, and Wednesday, May 11: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work.

 

I-66 East at I-495

Tuesday, May 10, through Thursday, May 12: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work.

 

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West

Tuesday, May 10, through Saturday, May 14: 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.

 

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East

Tuesday, May 10, through Saturday, May 14: 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East.

 

I-495 South at I-66

Wednesday, May 11: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead gantry installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.
