Upcoming Lane Closures and Traffic Changes

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / GAINESVILLE

University Boulevard North and South from I-66 to Route 29 (Lee Highway) Gainesville

Monday, May 16, through Friday, May 20: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One lane will be closed daily for roadway construction.

 

Route 29 North and South from University Boulevard to I-66

Monday, May 16, through Friday, May 20: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One lane will be closed daily for roadway construction.

 

I-66 East from Route 29 Gainesville to Manassas Safety Rest Area

Monday, May 16, through Friday, May 20: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The left lane will be closed daily for paving.

 

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road

Daily through Friday, June 10: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

 

I-66 East at Route 29 Gainesville

Tuesday, May 17, and Wednesday, May 18: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for survey work.

 

I-66 West from Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway) to Route 29 Gainesville

Friday, May 20: 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed both nights for overhead sign installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

ROUTE 234 BUSINESS (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS

I-66 East from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Gainesville to Manassas Safety Rest Area

Monday, May 16, through Friday, May 20: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The left lane will be closed daily for paving.

 

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road

Daily through Friday, June 10: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

 

I-66 East from Groveton Road to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)

Wednesday, May 18, through Friday, May 20: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for paving.

 

I-66 East from Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) to Manassas Safety Rest Area

Monday, May 16, through Friday, May 20: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

I-66 West from Manassas Safety Rest Area to Route 234 Business

Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 19: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

 

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / CENTREVILLE

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road

Daily through Friday, June 10: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

 

I-66 East from Cub Run Bridge to Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville

Wednesday, May 11, through Friday, May 13: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for paving.

 

Ramp from Route 29 Centreville North to I-66 West

Wednesday night, May 18, through Friday night, May 20: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to continue farther north to the intersection of Machen Road/Trinity Parkway. At the traffic signal drivers will use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

 

I-66 East at Cub Run Bridge

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, May 13, continuously through 5 a.m. Monday, May 16 (the weekend of May 20-23 will be used as backup should inclement conditions occur)

The left lane will be closed for bridge work. Two lanes will be closed between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights.

 

ROUTE 28 (SULLY ROAD) / CENTREVILLE

Braddock Road and Walney Road between Newton Patent Drive and Cabells Mill Drive

Saturday, May 14: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (Sunday, May 15 through Tuesday, May 17 will be used as back up nights should inclement weather occur)

Braddock Road/ Walney Road will be closed between Newton Patent Drive and Cabells Mill Drive for a traffic shift.  Drivers will be directed to Westfields Boulevard to reach Route 28 South, I-66 West, and points on the other side of Route 28.

 

Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road

Saturday, May 14: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (Sunday, May 15 through Tuesday, May 17 will be used as back up nights should inclement conditions occur)

The ramp will be closed for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to stay to the right and continue on the ramp to Route 28 North and travel to the exit to Westfields Boulevard. Drivers heading to Braddock Road will exit to Westfields Boulevard West and continue to Braddock Road. Drivers traveling to Walney Road will exit to Westfields Boulevard East, and then turn right onto Walney Road.

Saturday, May 14: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. (Sunday, May 15 through Tuesday, May 17 will be used as back up nights should inclement conditions occur)

The ramp will be closed for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther north on Route 28 to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange. Drivers traveling to Braddock Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, then continue west to Braddock Road. Drivers heading to Walney Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard East, then turn right onto Walney Road.

Monday, May 16: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Thursday, May 19: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21:  10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed each night for overhead bridge work.  Between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. Thursday night, and between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Saturday night, eastbound I-66 will be closed at Route 28. All eastbound traffic will be directed to exit to Route 28 North, travel to the Westfields Boulevard West exit, stay to the right to Route 28 South, then follow signs to I-66 East.

Monday, May 16, and Tuesday, May 17: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed each night for overhead bridge work.

 

Route 28 South from Westfields Boulevard to Braddock Road

Wednesday, May 18: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for overhead sign installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North

Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday night, May 19: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed both nights for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North.

 

Ramp from Route 28 North to I-66 East

Saturday night, May 21: Midnight to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Westfields Boulevard West, stay to the right to Route 28 South, then follow signs to I-66 East.

 

I-66 West from Stringfellow Road to Route 28

Tuesday, May 17, and Friday, May 20: 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Three lanes will be close for overhead bridge work.

 

I-66 East from east of Route 28 to Stringfellow Road

Monday, May 16, through Wednesday, May 18: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed Monday night. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.  On Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights, three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge beam installation approaching Stringfellow Road. Traffic will be directed into a single lane and diverted behind barrier onto new roadway around the work zone.

 

Route 28 North at I-66

The right lane will remain closed to provide an extended merge lane for the ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North.

 

ROUTE 286 (FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY) / FAIR LAKES

Ramps from Stringfellow Road to I-66 East/from I-66 West to Stringfellow Road
Beginning at 10:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, continuously through 4:30 a.m. Monday, May 16
The ramps will be closed for demolition of the old concrete barrier along the ramps.

 

I-66 West from Stringfellow Road to Route 28

Tuesday, May 17, and Friday, May 20: 10:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Three lanes will be close for overhead bridge work.

 

I-66 East from east of Route 28 to Stringfellow Road

Monday, May 16, through Wednesday, May 18: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed Monday night. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.  On Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights, three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge beam installation approaching Stringfellow Road. ROUTE 50 / FAIRFAX

Ramps from I-66 West to Monument Drive/from Monument Drive to I-66 East

Monday, May 16, through Friday, May 20: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramps will be closed nightly for bridge demolition.

 

I-66 East from Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) to Monument Drive

Monday, May 16, through Friday, May 20: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge demolition. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

Monument Drive over I-66

Monday, May 16, and Tuesday, May 17: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

Monument Drive will be reduced to a single lane in each direction nightly for overhead sign structure removal. Two-way traffic will run in the northbound lanes.

 

Ramp from Route 50 West to Fair Oaks Mall

Sunday night, May 15: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for guardrail installation and a traffic shift. Drivers will be detoured farther west to Route 608 South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then turn right at one of the two entrances to the Fair Oaks Mall property.

 

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East

Tuesday, May 17, and Wednesday, May 18: 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed each night for drainage work. Traffic will be detoured to Route 50 West, exit to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, then stay to the right to Route 50 East.

 

Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 West

Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20: 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed nightly for drainage work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

 

I-66 West from Jermantown Road to Route 50

Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

Right Turn Lane from Monument Drive North to I-66 East

Ongoing, through August 1

The right turn lane from Monument Drive North to I-66 East will be closed for bridge work. Traffic will be directed farther north to Fair Lakes Parkway, make a U-turn at the traffic signal to head south on Monument Drive. Drivers will then turn left at the traffic signal to the ramp to I-66 East.

 

Random Hills Road West from Fairfax Hills Way to Monument Drive

The left lane will be closed for retaining wall and bridge construction.

 

Random Hills Road East at Monument Drive

Route 50 East from Fair Oaks Mall to I-66

ROUTE 123 (CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD) / OAKTON – CITY OF FAIRFAX

Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) North at I-66

Monday, May 16: 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

One lane will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

Route 123 South from Rose Forest Drive to I-66

Monday, May 16: 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

One lane will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

Ramp from Route 123 North to I-66 East

Beginning Monday, May 16 around 2 p.m., through Summer 2022

The ramp will be closed for roadway construction. Northbound Route 123 drivers will access I-66 East by staying to the right and continuing about 500 feet beyond the current ramp to the traffic signal for the ramp from I-66 East. Drivers will turn right at the signal onto a temporary ramp that merges into the existing ramp from Route 123 North to I-66 East.

 

ROUTE 243 (NUTLEY STREET) / VIENNA

Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North

Tuesday night, May 17: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to exit to Nutley Street South, stay to the left and make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Saintsbury Drive onto Nutley Street North.

 

Nutley Street North and South at I-66

Tuesday night, May 17: Midnight to 4 a.m.

Nutley Street will be reduced to a single travel lane in each direction over I-66 to implement a traffic shift.

 

Ramp from I-66 West to Nutley Street South

Tuesday night, May 17: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed farther west to the exit to Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Station, stay to the right onto Country Creek Road, continue onto Virginia Center Boulevard, then at the Nutley Street traffic signal turn right to head south.

 

I-66 East from Vaden Drive to Nutley Street

Monday, May 16, and Tuesday, May 17: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed nightly for bridge rehabilitation work at Nutley Street.

 

Ramp from Nutley Street South to I-66 East

Monday night, May 16, and Tuesday night, May 17: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured further south, stay to the left and make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Route 29 (Lee Highway) onto Nutley Street North, and then follow signs to I-66 East.

 

I-66 West from Nutley Street to Vaden Drive

Monday, May 16, through Wednesday, May 18: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work.

 

I-66 East from Blake Lane to Nutley Street

Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work.

 

I-66 West at Vaden Drive

Monday, May 16: 9 a.m. to noon

The left lane will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

Vaden Drive North over I-66

Monday, May 16: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The right lane will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

Ramp from Virginia Center Boulevard to I-66 West

Beginning during the overnight hours Tuesday night, May 17, through Tuesday, July 5

The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to continue east on Virginia Center Boulevard to Nutley Street. At the traffic signal, turn right to Nutley Street South, then turn left at the traffic signal to access the ramp to I-66 West.

 

Ramp from Vaden Drive to I-66 West

Monday, May 16, and Tuesday, May 17: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for gantry erecting.

 

I-495 (CAPITAL BELTWAY) / DUNN LORING

Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North

Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20: 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

The ramp will be closed nightly for bridge work and a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, take the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, then stay to the right following signs to I-495 North.

 

495 Express Lanes North at I-66

Monday, May 16, Wednesday, May 18, Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The northbound 495 Express Lanes will be closed approaching I-66 both nights for a traffic shift. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to an alternate route.

Monday, May 16, through Saturday, May 21: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

I-66 West at I-495

Monday, May 16, through Friday, May 20: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work.

 

I-66 East at I-495

Sunday, May 16: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for survey work.

 

Ramp from I-66 East to 495 Express Lanes North and South

Wednesday, May 18: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramps will be closed for overhead bridge work. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to an alternate route.

 

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West

Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20: 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.

 

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East

Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20: 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East.

 

Dorr Avenue at Prosperity Avenue

Beginning Wednesday, May 18, for approximately six weeks

Dorr Avenue at Prosperity Avenue will be closed for utility relocation and roadway construction.  Traffic will be detoured via Merrifield Avenue, Merrilee Drive and Prosperity Avenue.
