Upcoming Lane Closures and Traffic Changes

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / GAINESVILLE

I-66 East from Route 15 to Route 29 (Lee Highway) Gainesville

Monday, July 25, through Wednesday, July 27: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for sign installation.

 

I-66 East between Route 29 Gainesville and east of Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway)

Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 29: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Two lanes will be closed daily for paving, drainage, and bridge work.

 

I-66 East from Route 234 Bypass to Groveton Road

Thursday, July 28: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for sign installation.

 

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road

Daily through Friday, August 26: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

 

ROUTE 234 BUSINESS (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS

I-66 East from Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) to Manassas Safety Rest Area

Sunday, July 24: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

 

I-66 West from Compton Road to Bull Run Bridge

Sunday, July 24: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for pavement repair.

 

I-66 West from Bull Run Bridge to Route 234 Business

Monday, July 25, Tuesday, July 26, and Thursday, July 28: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for sign installation, pavement repair and overhead bridge work.

 

I-66 West from Bull Run to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road)

Monday, July 25, through Wednesday, July 27: 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for paving work.

 

I-66 West from Compton Road to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) 

Monday, July 25, through Wednesday, July 27: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for paving.

 

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road

I-66 West from Compton Road to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) 

Monday, July 25, through Wednesday, July 27: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for paving.

ROUTE 28 (SULLY ROAD) / CENTREVILLE

I-66 East from Route 28 to Fairfax County Parkway

Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 29: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

Ramp from Braddock Road to I-66 West

Monday night, July 25, through Wednesday night, July 27: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed nightly for guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to exit to Route 28 South, continue to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Monday night, July 25: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, then follow signs to Route 28 South.

 

I-66 West from Fairfax County Parkway to Route 28

Monday, July 25: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

 

I-66 West at Route 28

Thursday, July 28, and Friday, July 29: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

One lane will be closed at 9 p.m. Nightly between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., westbound I-66 will be closed at Route 28. All traffic will be directed to exit at Route 28 North, travel to the Westfields Boulevard West exit, stay to the right to Route 28 South, then follow signs to I-66 West. Drivers traveling to Route 28 South will exit at Route 28 North, continue north to the Westfields Boulevard West exit, then stay to the right to Route 28 South. The ramp to Braddock Road/Walney Road from I-66 West will remain open during this period. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. daily.

Thursday night, July 28, and Friday night, July 29: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for sign and guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to Westfields Boulevard to reach Route 28 South.

 

Route 28 North from Route 29 (Lee Highway) to Braddock Road

Saturday, July 30: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for overhead bridge beam installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North

Saturday, July 30: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp from eastbound I-66 to Route 28 North will be reduced to a single travel lane. Divers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours

The right lane will remain closed to provide an extended merge lane for the ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North.

 

ROUTE 286 (FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY) / FAIR LAKES

I-66 West from Fairfax County Parkway to Route 28

Monday, July 25: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

 

I-66 East from Route 28 to Fairfax County Parkway

Monday, July 25, through Friday, July 29: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

Ramp from Stringfellow Road to I-66 East/from I-66 West to Stringfellow Road

Ongoing, through 5 a.m. Monday, September 5

The ramps will be closed for ramp construction and overhead bridge work.

 

ROUTE 50 / FAIRFAX

Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 East

Sunday night, July 24: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for ramp construction. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 East.

 

Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East

Tuesday night, July 26: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for a lane opening. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.

 

I-66 West from Jermantown Road to Route 50

Thursday, July 28: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Friday, July 29: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed both nights for a traffic shift.

 

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West

Thursday, July 28, and Friday, July 29: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed both nights for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.

 

Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East

Beginning Friday, July 15, continuously through Wednesday, July 27

One lane will be closed for ramp reconstruction.

 

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West

Continuously through Monday, August 1

The right lane will be closed for ramp construction.

 

Right Turn Lane from Monument Drive North to I-66 East

Ongoing, through August 1

The right turn lane from Monument Drive North to I-66 East will be closed for bridge work. Traffic will be directed farther north to Fair Lakes Parkway, make a U-turn at the traffic signal to head south on Monument Drive. Drivers will then turn left at the traffic signal to the ramp to I-66 East.

 

Random Hills Road West from Fairfax Hills Way to Monument Drive

The left lane will be closed for retaining wall and bridge construction.

 

Random Hills Road East at Monument Drive

Route 50 East from Fair Oaks Mall to I-66

ROUTE 123 (CHAIN BRIDGE ROAD) / OAKTON – CITY OF FAIRFAX

I-66 East from Blake Lane to Nutley Street

Monday, July 25: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Tuesday, July 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Wednesday, July 27, through Friday, July 29: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

On Monday, and Wednesday through Friday nights, two lanes will be closed for barrier removal. On Tuesday night, three lanes will be closed each night for a traffic shift.

 

ROUTE 243 (NUTLEY STREET) / VIENNA

I-66 East from Blake Lane to Nutley Street

Monday, July 25: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Tuesday, July 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Wednesday, July 27, through Friday, July 29: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

On Monday, and Wednesday through Friday nights, two lanes will be closed for barrier removal. On Tuesday night, three lanes will be closed each night for a traffic shift.

 

Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North and South 

Tuesday, July 26: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramps will be closed both nights for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther east to I-495 North, travel north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) West, stay to the right to I-495 South, exit to I-66 West, then follow signs to Nutley Street North or South.

 

Ramp from Nutley Street South to I-66 East

Tuesday, July 26: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed both nights for a traffic shift. Traffic will be detoured farther south, stay to the left and make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Route 29 onto Nutley Street North, then follow signs to I-66 East.

 

I-495 (CAPITAL BELTWAY) / DUNN LORING

Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North

Saturday, July 28: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Sunday, July 24, through Thursday, July 28: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed each night for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, take the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, then stay to the right following signs to I-495 North. (Note: this closure will not be implemented when it conflicts with other detours)

 

495 Express Lanes North from Robinson Terminal (the beginning of the Express Lanes) to I-66 

Saturday, July 23: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Sunday, July 24, and Monday, July 25: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

The northbound 495 Express Lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work at I-66. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to an alternate route.

 

Ramp from 495 Express Lanes North to I-66 West

Sunday, July 24, through Friday, July 29: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed each night for paving and sign installation. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to an alternate route.

 

I-66 East at I-495

Sunday, July 24, through Friday, July 29: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed each night for overhead bridge work.

 

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 East

Sunday night, July 24, through Thursday night, July 28: Midnight to 4 a.m.

Friday night, July 29: Midnight to 5 a.m.
The ramp will be closed each night for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) East, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 East.

 

Ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West

Sunday night, July 24, through Thursday night, July 28: Midnight to 4 a.m.

Friday night, July 29: Midnight to 5 a.m.
The ramp from I-495 North to I-66 West will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Route 7 West, stay to the right to I-495 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.

 

I-66 West from I-495 to Gallows Road

Monday, July 25: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for gantry installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours

 

I-495 North at I-66

Monday, July 25, through Thursday, July 29: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. 

Three lanes will be closed both nights for overhead bridge work and gantry installation.

 

Ramp from the 495 Express Lanes North to I-66 East

Wednesday, July 27, and Thursday, July 28: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed each night for overhead bridge work. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to an alternate route.

 

Ramp from I-66 West to I-495 South 

Thursday night, July 28: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for utility work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.

 

I-66 East from west of Gallows Road to I-495

Thursday, July 28: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for sign installation. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.
