Upcoming Lane Closures and Traffic Changes

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / GAINESVILLE

University Boulevard North and South from I-66 to Route 29 (Lee Highway) Gainesville

Monday, July 18, through Friday, July 22: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One lane will be closed daily for roadway construction.

 

Route 29 North and South from University Boulevard to I-66

Monday, July 18, through Friday, July 22: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

One lane will be closed daily for roadway construction.

 

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road

Daily through Friday, July 22: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

 

I-66 East from Route 29 Gainesville to Groveton Road

Sunday, July 10, through Thursday, July 14: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for pavement repairs and sign installation.

 

I-66 West from Groveton Road to Route 29 Gainesville

Monday, July 11, and Tuesday, July 12: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

I-66 West from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville to Route 29 Gainesville

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, July 15, continuously through Monday, July 18

The left (HOV) lane will be closed continuously for paving of the future I-66 Express Lanes. Between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. each night, three travel lanes will be closed.

 

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway)

Friday, July 15: 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for restriping. Traffic will be detoured farther west, exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North, turn to the left at the traffic signal on to Route 29 South, stay to the right to I-66 East, and then follow signs to Route 234 Bypass.

Monday, July 18, through Thursday, July 21: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for drainage work, overhead bridge work, and pavement repair.

 

ROUTE 234 BUSINESS (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road

Daily through Friday, July 22: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

 

I-66 West from Groveton Road to Route 29 Gainesville

Monday, July 11, and Tuesday, July 12: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for a traffic shift.

 

I-66 West from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville to Route 29 Gainesville

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, July 15, continuously through Monday, July 18

Wednesday, July 20, and Thursday, July 21: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for pavement repair.

 

ROUTE 29 (LEE HIGHWAY) / CENTREVILLE

I-66 East and West between Route 15 and Compton Road

Daily through Friday, July 22: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work.

 

I-66 West from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville to Route 29 Gainesville

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, July 15, continuously through Monday, July 18

Ramp from Route 29 North Centreville to I-66 West

Sunday, May 17: 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for striping.  Traffic will be directed to continue north on Route 29, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal to I-66 East, exit to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, and then stay to the right to I-66 West.

 

I-66 East from Compton Road to Route 29 Centreville

Monday, May 18, through Thursday, May 21: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for paving.

 

ROUTE 28 (SULLY ROAD) / CENTREVILLE

Ramp from Braddock Road to I-66 West

Monday night, July 18, through Wednesday night, July 20: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to exit to Route 28 South, continue south, exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I-66 West.

 

Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to Route 28 South

Monday night, July 17, and Thursday night, July 21: Midnight to 4 a.m.

Friday night, July 22: Midnight to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for sign and guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to Westfields Boulevard to reach Route 28 South.

 

Route 28 South from Braddock Road to Route 29 (Lee Highway)

Wednesday, July 20: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for overhead sign installation.

 

Route 28 North from I-66 to Westfields Boulevard

Tuesday, July 19, and Wednesday, July 20: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes closed for sign installation.

The right lane will remain closed to provide an extended merge lane for the ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North.

 

 

ROUTE 286 (FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY) / FAIR LAKES

Stringfellow Road North and South between Fair Lakes Boulevard and Westbrook Drive/Village Square Drive

Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Stringfellow Road approaching I-66 will be closed in both directions for overhead bridge beam installation. On the north side of I-66, thru-traffic on Stringfellow Road will be directed to Fair Lakes Boulevard, turn right onto Fair Lakes Parkway, travel about one mile and turn right onto the ramp to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, follow signs to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, and travel about two miles south to reach the intersection with Stringfellow Road. Vehicles can then turn left for southbound Stringfellow Road or turn right to return toward I-66.

 

On the south side of I-66, thru-traffic on Stringfellow Road will be directed to Route 29 North, travel north for two miles, then follow signs to Route 286 North. Drivers will then exit at Fair Lakes Parkway/Monument Drive and stay to the left to turn left at the traffic signal onto Fair Lakes Parkway, turn left onto Fair Lakes Boulevard, and then turn right onto Stringfellow Road to head north.

Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Thursday, July 21: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work and overhead sign installation.  On Thursday night, drivers should expect periodic stoppages during the overnight hours.

 

Stringfellow Road North at I-66

Beginning at 9 p.m. Monday, July 17, continuously through 5 a.m. Wednesday, July 20

Northbound Stringfellow Road at I-66 will be reduced to a single travel lane for bridge beam installation work.

 

Ramps from I-66 East to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North and South

Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramps will be closed for barrier removal.   Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North or South.

 

Ramp from Route 286 South to I-66 East

Monday, July 18, and Tuesday, July 19: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramps will be closed for barrier removal. Traffic will be directed farther south to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North, turn left at the second traffic signal, and follow signs to Route 286 North, then exit to I-66 East.

 

Ramp from Stringfellow Road to I-66 East/from I-66 West to Stringfellow Road

Ongoing, through 5 a.m. Monday, September 5

The ramps will be closed for ramp construction and overhead bridge work.

 

ROUTE 50 / FAIRFAX

Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East

Beginning Friday, July 15, continuously through Monday, July 25

One lane will be closed for ramp reconstruction.

 

Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West

Monday night, July 18: Midnight to 4 a.m.

Friday night, July 22: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for wall work and a traffic shift.  Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.

 

I-66 East from Route 608 (West Ox Road) to Route 50

Monday, July 18, through Thursday, July 21: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for paving Monday and Tuesday nights.  On Wednesday and Thursday nights, three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work.

 

Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 West

Tuesday night, July 19, and Wednesday night, July 20: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for a traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road onto Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

 

Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East

Wednesday night, July 20, and Thursday night, July 21: Midnight to 4 a.m.

The ramp will be closed for sign installation. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east, stay to the left and use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn at the traffic signal at Waples Mill Road, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.

 

I-66 West from Waples Mill Road to Route 50

Wednesday, July 20, and Thursday, July 21: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Friday, July 22, and Saturday, July 23: 9 p.m. to 9 a.m.

Three lanes will be close each night for overhead bridge work and paving.

 

Route 50 East from Route 608 to I-66

Wednesday, July 20, and Thursday, July 21: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Two lanes will be closed for sign installation.

 

Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 West

Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, July 22, continuously through 5 a.m. Monday, July 25

The ramp will be closed for reconstruction. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal, stay to the right to exit to I-66 West, and then follow signs to Route 50 West.

The right lane will be closed for ramp construction.

 

Right Turn Lane from Monument Drive North to I-66 East

Ongoing, through August 1

The right turn lane from Monument Drive North to I-66 East will be closed for bridge work. Traffic will be directed farther north to Fair Lakes Parkway, make a U-turn at the traffic signal to head south on Monument Drive. Drivers will then turn left at the traffic signal to the ramp to I-66 East.

 

Random Hills Road West from Fairfax Hills Way to Monument Drive

The left lane will be closed for retaining wall and bridge construction.

Ramp from I-66 East to I-495 North

Saturday, July 16: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Sunday, July 17, and Monday, July 18: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The ramp will be closed each night for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to I-495 South, take the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, then stay to the right following signs to I-495 North.

 

495 Express Lanes North from Robinson Terminal (the beginning of the Express Lanes) to I-66

Saturday, July 16: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Sunday, July 18, and Monday, July 19: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Thursday, July 21, and Friday, July 22: 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The northbound 495 Express Lanes will be closed nightly for overhead bridge work at I-66. Overhead variable message boards will direct traffic to an alternate route.
