FAIRFAX, Va. – Overnight lane closures are scheduled to continue on eastbound I-66 between Route 29 in Gainesville and Sudley Road (Route 234 Business) in Prince William County the nights of Monday, May 21 through Thursday, May 24. Crews will shift travel lanes and set up work zones for construction on the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project.

Details include:

  • Monday, May 21 through Thursday, May 24: Eastbound I-66 between Route 29 in Gainesville and Sudley Road (Route 234 Business)
    • Three left lanes of eastbound I-66 between the vicinity of Route 29 in Gainesville and Sudley Road (Route 234 Business) will close starting at 8 p.m. on Monday, May 21 through Thursday, May 24. All lanes will re-open by 5 a.m.
    • Occasional 15-minute stoppages and slowdowns along eastbound I-66 each night
    • Removal of HOV diamonds and left-side yellow edge line between Route 29 in Gainesville and Sudley Road (Route 234 Business)
    • On Monday night (May 21), narrowing of the ramp from northbound Prince William Parkway (Route 234 Bypass) to eastbound I-66 is planned. Drivers should expect slowdowns and periodic 15-minute stoppages on the ramp that night

Following this work, all lanes on eastbound I-66 between Prince William Parkway (Route 234 Bypass) and Sudley Road (Route 234 Business) will be shifted toward the inside median.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement weather occurs.

The work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project. The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
