Drivers should expect overnight lane closures and periodic late-night stoppages on eastbound and westbound I-66 between Route 50 and Nutley Street from Tuesday, July 31 through Saturday, August 4, for crews to remove overhead gantries and signs as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project.

Details include:

Tuesday, July 31: Eastbound I-66 Between U.S. Route 50 and Jermantown Road

  • Temporary closure of the three left lanes between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. to remove an overhead gantry.

Wednesday, Aug 1: Westbound I-66 Between Blake Lane and Jermantown Road

  • Temporary closure of the three right lanes between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. to remove an overhead gantry.

Thursday, August 2: Eastbound I-66 between Jermantown Road and Route 123

  • Temporary closure of the three left lanes of eastbound I-66 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes between midnight and 4 a.m. to remove two overhead gantries.

Friday, August 3: Eastbound I-66 between U.S. Route 50 and Route 123

  • Temporary closure of the three left lanes between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes between midnight and 5 a.m. to remove an overhead gantry.

Saturday, August 4: Westbound I-66 between Blake Lane and Route 123

  • Temporary closure of the three right lanes of westbound I-66 between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.
  • Periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes between midnight and 5 a.m. to remove an overhead gantry.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement weather occurs.

The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
