I-66 OVERNIGHT CLOSURES AND LANE SHIFTS THIS WEEK

Eastbound I-66 between Route 29 in Gainesville and Prince William Parkway (Route 234 Bypass) starting tonight, May 8

FAIRFAX, Va. – Overnight lane closures are scheduled to occur on eastbound I-66 between Route 29 in Gainesville and Prince William Parkway (Route 234 Bypass) in Prince William County, May 8-10. Crews will shift travel lanes and set up work zones to allow for construction on the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project.

Closures are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8 and Wednesday, May 9. Drivers should expect slowdowns and periodic 15-minute stoppages along eastbound I-66 throughout both nights. Details include:

Tuesday, May 8:

  • Closure of three left lanes starting at 8 p.m. on eastbound I-66 in the vicinity of Route 29 in Gainesville to Prince William Parkway
  • Periodic 15-minute stoppages and slowdowns on the ramp from eastbound I-66 to southbound Prince William Parkway

Wednesday, May 9:

  • Closure of three left lanes starting at 8 p.m. on eastbound I-66 in the vicinity of Route 29 in Gainesville to Prince William Parkway
  • Narrowing of the ramp from northbound Prince William Parkway to eastbound I-66. Drivers should expect slowdowns and periodic 15-minute stoppages on the ramp

Following this work, all lanes on eastbound I-66 in the vicinity of Prince William Parkway will be shifted toward the inside median to support upcoming construction activity.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement weather occurs.

The work is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway project. The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
